M. Vamvakaris’ s Museum was established in 1995 in the centre of Ano Syros, in an old residence which was renovated to house the personal possessions of the troubadour who was born in 1905 in Ano Syros and lived there the first years of his life.

In the museum, Markos’s friends can see photographs and memorabilia, his passport and his identity card, his clothes and shoes, manuscripts and lyrics, his ring and watch and other personal belongings, which were donated by his family to be exhibited in the museum bearing his name.

Since 2000 the Municipality of Ano Syros has organised a festival of popular music every summer in his memory entitled ‘Musical Journeys in Markos’s Trail’, which has always been very successful.
